Bamboo viscose pillowcases feel silky, cool, and smooth, and with a little care they stay that way for years. The fabric is a bit more delicate than everyday cotton, so the right washing and drying habits make a real difference. Here is everything you need to know.
What is bamboo viscose?
Bamboo viscose is a fabric made by processing bamboo pulp into fibers, then spinning and weaving them into a soft, smooth cloth. On a care label you will see it described as viscose from bamboo (sometimes rayon from bamboo). Our pillowcases are 100% viscose from bamboo, woven at 300 thread count, which gives them their silky feel and breathability.
How to wash bamboo viscose pillowcases
- Use cold water. Hot water can weaken the fibers and cause shrinking. A cold, gentle cycle is all they need.
- Choose a mild detergent. Harsh or heavily scented detergents are tougher on the fabric than they need to be.
- Skip the bleach. Bleach breaks down viscose fibers and can leave thin spots or discoloration.
- Skip fabric softener too. It coats the fibers and dulls that naturally smooth feel. Bamboo viscose gets softer on its own with washing.
- Wash with similar fabrics. Keep them away from rough items like jeans, and anything with zippers or hooks that can snag.
How to dry them
Tumble dry on low, or line dry. High heat is the most common cause of shrinking and roughness, so keep the dryer setting gentle. Taking pillowcases out promptly when the cycle ends also helps keep wrinkles down.
Ironing and wrinkles
Most people never need to iron them. If you prefer a crisp look, use a low iron setting while the fabric is slightly damp, or simply smooth the case flat by hand straight out of the dryer.
How often to wash pillowcases
A good general rule is once a week. Pillowcases pick up skin oils, hair products, and sweat every night, so they need washing more often than most bedding. Keeping two sets on hand makes this easy: one on the bed, one in the wash.
Quick care checklist
- Machine wash cold, gentle cycle
- Mild detergent
- No bleach, no fabric softener
- Tumble dry low or line dry
- Wash about once a week
Make laundry day faster too
Caring for your pillowcases is easy. Putting them back on the pillow is usually the annoying part. Our EZ Pillowcase pairs silky 300-thread-count bamboo viscose with a top-opening, envelope-style design: open the top, slide the pillow in, and tuck the flap. Each pack includes two queen-size pillowcases, and the 4-pack bundle gives you 8 pillowcases, enough for a spare set on every bed.
